Resistance to Reality
“Suffering deepens when the mind demands that reality be different from what is actually here.”
Much of human suffering can be understood through our relationship with reality. The ego, the identity of the mind, continually forms preferences, expectations, and ideas about how life should unfold. This should not be happening. They should behave differently. My life should look another way. I need to know what happens next. When reality does not obey these expectations, resistance appears.
The difficulty is not that we have preferences. Preferences help us choose and create. The problem begins when preference becomes a demand that reality must conform to before we can remain at peace.
Love and Truth approaches this through the practice of surrender.
Surrender does not mean giving up, becoming passive, or accepting harmful circumstances. It means releasing the inner struggle against the fact that this moment is already here. We see clearly what is happening, allow it to be present, and then choose how we wish to respond.
This changes the position of the ego. Rather than allowing the limited identity of the mind to become captain and demand control over every outcome, the Love and Truth Practice expands awareness beyond it. The ego remains useful as part of the mind, a co-pilot that interprets, plans, and navigates, but it no longer has to determine the entire course.
Through active meditation, surrender is practiced throughout the whole human system. We notice physical tension and release unnecessary contraction. We allow the heart to remain open rather than closing against the experience. We observe the thoughts demanding that reality be different without automatically becoming identified with them.
Body, heart, and mind return toward an open, relaxed, and alert state of presence.
As resistance softens, more awareness becomes available. Instead of consuming our energy fighting the reality already before us, we can perceive what the moment contains. New possibilities become visible. Intuitive guidance becomes easier to recognize. We can act from clarity rather than from the fear created by our demand for certainty and control.
This is the foundation of what Love and Truth calls the Creative Flow State. Flow is not the absence of challenge. It is the capacity to remain aligned while moving through changing circumstances. We respond, adjust, create, and move forward without requiring life to follow the script the ego imagined.
Paradoxically, surrender does not make us less capable of shaping our lives. It makes conscious action more available. When we stop wasting energy resisting what has already occurred, that energy becomes available for what can be created next.
As this practice deepens, another dimension of life begins to reveal itself. Purpose is no longer something the ego must manufacture. The deeper Being becomes more perceptible, and the heart begins to illuminate a direction that can only be discovered through living it.
Love and Truth therefore does not ask reality to obey us. It teaches us to meet reality clearly, remain aligned within it, and consciously participate in what unfolds.
Release the demand that life follow the mind’s expectations. Meet what is here, follow the heart, and allow the next possibility to reveal itself.
