INFO:

  • “Mind Shackled, The New Enslavement”
  • Size: 32″  x  48″
  • Medium: Ink, watercolor, gouache, acrylic and graphite merged with explorative processes.

This work was created by appropriating one of the oldest known photographs of a slave entitled “escaped slave Gordon or Whipped Peter” from 1863 showing his scarred back at a medical examination, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The title of the work is designed to have the viewer consider the dynamics of suffering, physical, mental, imposed by others and the self and how it manifests in todays free world mentally via racism, judgement and discrimination.
