Breakfast with Caravaggio

This painting reflects my current exercises in pushing myself outside the comfort zone where artistic style seems to prevail.

It is very common from marketing perspectives to get in a lane and stay there. Sales love that but the heart gets bored. I want growth, evolution, the unknown, the adventure to discover. That takes courage and a willingness to traverse into the unknown. I believe this is what Joseph Campbell refers to as “The Hero’s Journey”.

This work begins with a still life painting I had created of a vase of flowers that one could say has a more recognizable “style” to me… It then was built out piece by piece with a spontaneous interventions, brush strokes and AI support structures to implement unknown artifacts. This includes the entire space which was created to house the art.

When I was 23, a beautiful Dutch woman nicknamed me Caravaggio due certain dynamics about my personality at that time. We are still friends till this day and sometimes I think I can feel what she sensed in me long ago. In some way and thru the support of current mediums and materials, I am able to reflect with more precision certain dynamics resonating from within and thru my heart. it may not look familiar to those who are familiar with my work, but if you know my heart this feels right at home today.
