Clarity Over Ego
“When the moment being right becomes more important than seeing clearly, truth becomes harder to reach.”
Before entering any disagreement, there is a simple question worth asking: What matters more, to win, or to discover what is true?
From the perspective of the ego, winning can feel essential. The ego is the identity of the mind, built from beliefs, opinions, memories, conditioning, and personal history. When one of these positions is challenged, the mind can experience it as a challenge to the self. Instead of listening, we defend. Instead of becoming curious, we gather evidence for what we already believe.
The problem is not having an opinion. The problem begins when our identity becomes attached to it.
When this happens, intelligence can actually work against us. A sharp intellect becomes highly skilled at defending an inaccurate perception. We may win the argument while moving further away from what is true.
Love and Truth places a different value at the center: clarity.
Truth matters because our ability to live well depends upon seeing reality as clearly as possible. If our perception is distorted by fear, pride, conditioning, or the need to be right, our decisions will be shaped by that distortion. Relationships suffer, professional choices become misaligned, and the life we create can gradually move away from the life the heart is calling us toward.
This is why Love and Truth is a practice of expanding self-awareness. We learn to recognize when the ego has become defensive and when an opinion has quietly become part of our identity. Instead of immediately protecting the position, we create enough inner space to ask: What if there is something here I have not yet seen?
Through active meditation, we return body, heart, and mind to an open, relaxed, and alert state of presence. The mind becomes clear enough to examine what is actually present. The heart remains open enough to receive another perspective without immediately rejecting it. The body releases the tension that often accompanies defensiveness.
From this aligned state, changing our mind is no longer experienced as losing. It can become evidence that awareness has expanded. We may discover that we were partly right, partly wrong, or looking through a limited perspective. The purpose is not humiliation. It is refinement.
This is where humility becomes a form of strength. The sincere person would rather release an old belief than allow it to block the deeper truth of who they are becoming.
Love and Truth therefore asks us to move beyond the competition of being right and into the exploration of what is real. The ego can remain a useful part of the mind, but it does not have to determine the destination. The clearer we become, the more available we are to the intuitive guidance of the heart and the path of the Hero’s Journey.
Do not protect the answer you already have. Stay open long enough for truth to reveal something greater.
