About.

The photographs in The Pole Book were captured between 2008 and 2012 in Los Angeles California. This time period was unique as it marked a turning point when pole dancing was evolving into a mainstream art form and practice. During this four-year period, a very focused and passionate effort was made to capture every aspect of pole dancing from the diverse environments and the people who were practicing it.

Many people opened their heart, studios, clubs, competitions and homes to my camera.  X-Pole USA supported the vision of this project, contributing their X-Stage to the studio.

How it started…

A celebrity stylist recognized Gregory Beylerians figurative photographic artwork and commissioned a series of photographs of her pole dancing. A pole and stage were rented and the scene was beautifully lit. The resulting images resonated with beauty, empowerment and grace which were qualities not yet associated with pole dancing by the mainstream.  The success of that project inspired a 4-year photographic journey, capturing the pole dance movement in Los Angeles just as it was flowering. The result is “The Pole Book”,  a collection of photographs presenting pole dancing as an art form.
