This is a rear lit illuminated work of art is installed in the main lobby at 535 Fifth Ave. New York, N.Y. The Lobby renovation was designed by The Gensler Architectural firm. I was asked to provide ideas for the space allocated and responded with 10 different conceptual drawings, all representing The culture, life or architecture of New York City. They chose to go with a portrait of “The Grand Central Terminal” which is a landmark located just around the corner from the building. This piece stands at 10 feet tall and 4 feet wide and is built into the wall using state of the art, day light balanced continuous lighting technology. There are no windows in the lobby and wanted to get as much of a “feel” for natural light ambiance and it really helped for the tones in the sky and clouds to come thru on the piece. Other works of art were developed to be rotated, keeping a visual variety at play.
