Don’t Run Away
“The path is not to escape what feels dark, but to become so deeply aligned that darkness no longer determines who we become.”
Human traditions have long used archetypal language to describe the forces that can pull us away from our deeper nature. Demons, shadows, temptation, Maya, darkness, these words point toward experiences that can be difficult to describe through ordinary language alone. Whether understood psychologically, spiritually, or otherwise, their relevance can be explored directly within human experience.
Fear arises. Anger takes hold. Desire becomes compulsive. Resentment closes the heart. The ego becomes defensive and the mind loses clarity. In these moments, something has pulled the body, heart, and mind away from alignment with the deeper truth of who we are.
Our instinct may be to run away from what feels negative. We avoid difficult emotions, uncomfortable situations, troubling thoughts, or aspects of ourselves we would rather not see. Yet what remains unseen can continue operating beneath awareness. Avoidance does not necessarily free us from darkness; sometimes it simply keeps us unconscious of its influence.
Love and Truth takes another approach: remain present and bring awareness to what appears.
This is not about seeking darkness or allowing harmful forces to overwhelm us. It is about developing enough inner stability that we can encounter difficult experiences without becoming identified with them. Through active meditation, we learn to recognize when fear, anger, judgment, or other powerful reactions begin pulling the system away from center.
The practice is to return body, heart, and mind toward an open, relaxed, and alert state of presence. The mind becomes clear enough to see what is happening. The heart remains open enough to stay connected with Love. The body releases unnecessary tension so that we can respond rather than react.
With practice, awareness expands and recognition comes earlier. We begin to feel the subtle shift before anger becomes rage, before fear becomes paralysis, or before desire becomes compulsion. What once unconsciously took control becomes something we can observe and consciously navigate.
This is one way to understand the ancient language of facing the shadow. We are not required to defeat every dark experience through force. We become increasingly established in the light of awareness so that what arises can be seen without becoming the captain of the vessel.
The deeper spiritual journey is therefore not simply about experiencing moments of the Divine while avoiding everything else. It is about embodying Love and Truth deeply enough that even challenging experiences become part of our awakening.
Life itself becomes the training ground. Every moment that pulls us from alignment becomes another opportunity to recognize, return, and deepen the practice.
Do not run from the darkness. Bring the light of awareness, remain aligned with the heart, and let what challenges you become part of your transformation.
