My First Radio
“My First Radio” is one of the earliest sculptures I made for which I have a photographic record of. I was about 10 years old. It was a functioning radio that I made for my father’s birthday. All the radio components were acquired from a working radio that I took apart (At this age I loved taking things apart to see what was inside). The innards were carefully re assembled on a 2×4 piece of wood in a linear fashion, following an intuitive balance between aesthetic and flow of component layout. A piece of my mothers hosiery was used to wrap the speaker and colorful wire of varying gauges was used to create a fluffy metal cloud that also functioned as the antenna.
