Artist Statement: My First Fairy

My First Fairy is a digital video portrait, a fusion of art and technology, born from my lifelong exploration of sculpture, photography, assemblage, figurative art, sound, and painting. It is a reflection of my heart and soul, shaped through decades of creative practice and guided by a devotion to the divine feminine.

The title My First Fairy plays on a line of toddler toys once made by Hasbro’s Playskool brand, soft, safe, and innocent creations designed to nurture imagination. I borrow this language to reconnect with the child within me, that original, unconditioned state of being when consciousness was pure, free from cultural imprint and limitation. It was in that early freedom that creativity flowed effortlessly, and I have devoted my life to rediscovering and sustaining that state of presence.

This work arises from that devotion, to quiet the mind, open the heart, and allow creative intelligence to flow as a guiding light. Creativity, to me, is not merely expression; it is communion, a way of listening to the deeper intelligence within the soul. When we dissolve fear, judgment, and the illusions of conditioning, we begin to see again through the eyes of the child, lucid, open, and unburdened.

My First Fairy also echoes the mythic archetype of the maker and the muse, the living essence breathed into form, much like Geppetto’s longing for life in Pinocchio. In my workshop, I craft not from wood, but from light, sound, code, pigment, and digital matter. The fairy that emerges is a construct of my heart, alive with grace, sensuality, and maternal love. She embodies the divine feminine as energy, not fantasy, a reflection of the creative principle itself.

To see her truly, one must look beyond form. What may appear to be pixels and mechanics is, to me, a field of life, movement, vibration, and presence. All material, whether metal, pigment, or bone, contains the pulse of creation when perceived with an open heart. What we call “inanimate” may simply be life beyond our ordinary seeing.

This artwork invites the viewer to return to the “beginner’s mind”,  the state of awareness that children naturally live in and that mystics spend lifetimes cultivating. It is a reminder that perception and judgment are not the same: judgment closes, perception opens. When we release conditioned beliefs, we tune again to the frequency of wonder, where the fairy,  the symbol of pure creative intelligence, becomes visible.

My First Fairy lives in that field of seeing. She was not imagined by me so much as revealed through me. My role is that of a transmitter, practicing to align body, heart, and mind as instruments tuned to the frequencies of authentic love and truth. This is my lifelong exploration: to experience creation as communion, and to give form to what the soul whispers through the heart.

In this way, My First Fairy becomes both portrait and portal, a vision born with technology yet animated by spirit, inviting us all to remember the light that moves within and beyond the visible world.
