THE WRITING:

Face The Forest

In the timeless archetypal story of the hero’s journey, a reflection of humanity’s path through life, we begin in the village. This village symbolizes our comfort zone, where safety lives behind sturdy walls and everything is familiar: the people, routines, and roles we play. But life, in its deeper sense, calls us beyond these walls. It beckons us to discover the greatest treasure of all.

And what is that treasure?

It is the truth of who we are. When we align with this truth, when we live from it, we awaken our infinite potential. It’s what some call the soul, the origin, the Creator within. It is love, unconditional love, the intelligence from which all life flows.

The hero’s journey is the story of answering this call. And while many set off to find something out there, the irony is that the treasure we seek is always found within. Still, the story offers a guide. Before the journey begins, the village supports us: the baker gives us bread for sustenance, the blacksmith provides tools and sharpens our sword, the shaman offers vision and medicine. But none of it matters without one essential thing: the courage to leave the village.

Every great tale speaks of a dark forest just beyond the village gates. This forest is thick with mystery, filled with monsters hiding in the shadows. And yet, it is the only way to reach the mountain where the treasure lies.

The forest symbolizes the mind. The monsters are the dark thoughts, the inner demons we carry, our fears, wounds, and limiting beliefs. The mountain beyond is the heart, vast and sacred. And the path through the forest is the necessary journey each of us must take to awaken to who we really are.

This universal story is a mirror for us all. The treasure we seek is the source of our deepest dreams, dreams born in the heart and imagined into form. To realize those dreams, we must find the courage to face our inner forest. That’s why we sharpen our sword: to cut through illusion, to face our demons head-on.

This is the path of Love and Truth, a daily practice, an art form. It aligns us with our authentic self by training the body, heart, and mind to be open, relaxed, centered, and alert. With intuition as our compass and the clarity of a nonjudgmental mind as our guide, we begin to perceive life not through fear or belief, but through truth.

This practice helps us break free from conditioning, not by denying our beliefs or feelings, but by learning not to identify with them. In that freedom, we gain clarity. We hear the voice of the heart. We move with the intelligence of higher awareness and the love that underlies all creation.

When we walk through life as the hero on the path, we meet each step with present-moment awareness. We observe the tension in our body, heart, and mind, and release it. We use the techniques we’ve trained in to stay grounded, especially when the darkness comes. These are the “dark nights of the soul,” the moments of challenge when we feel lost in the forest. But we keep going, knowing the forest is not forever.

Eventually, we reach the base of the great mountain, our own heart. With the breath in rhythm and the body in flow, we climb. We meet each obstacle not with fear, but with awareness. And as we ascend, we begin to realize: the treasure we’ve been searching for was never far. It was always inside us, waiting to be remembered.

The journey is not a destination, it’s a living experience, unfolding each day in small and profound ways. The goal is not in some far-off future; the power lies in the quality of the now. When we are fully present, we shift not only our own life, but also the lives of those around us.

This is the power of the heart. When awakened, when lived, it transforms everything it touches.
